First off: That cliffhanger ending! Okay, back to the beginning. The book starts with the despicable Artemis torturing Rayah. He wants to break her so thoroughly that she is never able to use her powers. That way, he will be able to have her as his slave again. I wonder what he is doing to her mother. *shutters* Artemis is also extremely possessive and jealous. Any boy who talks to Rayah better watch out. He almost brags about what he did to Tristan. I hope that Tristan is still alive somehow, but he’s probably not. This book is more than just entertainment; it made me think—about love, friendship, sacrifice, forgiveness, and change. The main characters in this book are like real people in that they show more than one side of their personalities. You get to know them on a deeper level as the series continues. This book is full of action with just a hint of romance. That’s the kind of book I enjoy most. I picked it up and couldn’t put it down until I’d finished it! Destiny Hawkins is a masterful storyteller, and I can’t wait to read more in this series.
